Family Matters in Residential Youth Psychiatric Treatment

January 10, 2025

Here’s how family continues to play a role while their child receives in-house care.

When your child is struggling with anxiety, PTSD, or other psychiatric issues, family is their one constant. They need to feel a sense of normalcy and familiarity while they work through their recovery. Here’s why we take a family-focused approach at our youth in-house treatment center.

Benefits of Family-Focused Residential Psychiatric Treatment for Teens

Having family involvement in their child’s treatment can help achieve better outcomes:

  • Families provide teens with a support network.
  • They learn more about their teen’s health struggles, which fosters empathy and reduces misunderstandings.
  • Family-involved therapy sessions rebuild trust and create effective communication.
  • It creates a unified approach to care.
  • Teens feel supported and accountable.
  • Family involvement normalizes seeking help for mental health.
  • Families can help prepare their teen to reintegrate into the home and daily life.
  • Family-focused care allows families to heal and reconnect.

Programs with family engagement have higher success rates, as teens and their households are better equipped to work together post-treatment.

Our Family-Focused Approach at Hallmark Youthcare

Our family-focused residential psychiatric treatment for adolescents takes place at our facility, but relies on family involvement for holistic care. A critical aspect of our family focus includes home passes, which allow a gradual and therapeutically-led process for reintegration into the home setting.

Family members can also participate in monthly treatment planning meetings, be involved in weekly therapies, and attend visitation up to four times per week.

Seeing their family invest time and effort in their well-being motivates teens to engage more deeply in their treatment. Learn more today!
