A Day in the Life: What to Expect in the TSAY Program

October 4, 2024

Here’s what our adolescents experience in our inpatient program.

The adolescent years are filled with fluctuating hormones and piqued sexual interest. However, some children go beyond what’s considered normal and develop sexual aggressions that could pose a risk to themselves and others.

There is hope—here’s a closer look at the TSAY program designed to address these behaviors in adolescents.

What Is the TSAY Program?

Our Treatment for Sexually Acting Out Youth (TSAY) program is a 9-12 month inpatient program for boys ages 12-17 designed to improve behaviors and interpersonal connections. We use an individual and group approach that treats the “whole person” and gets to the root of their sexually aggressive behaviors. Our tailored treatment includes cognitive-behavioral, strengths-based, and social learning strategies, as well as pharmacological interventions, moral reasoning, and psychodynamic approaches to create a structured, yet supportive environment.

A Typical Day in Our TSAY Inpatient Youth Mental Health Program

For adolescent boys in our TSAY program, an average day may include some or all of the following:

  • Individual, group, and family therapies
  • School work
  • Activity therapies
  • Community events

Our program consists of three phases: Mastery of Awareness, Mastery of Transformation, and Mastery of Intent. These phases build on each other and are tailored to the individual. By the end of the program, we aim to achieve several objectives, including:

  • Reduced deviant arousal
  • Relapse prevention
  • Social skills
  • Moral reasoning
  • Empathy
  • Conflict resolution
  • Sexual education
  • Values clarification

We use well-researched, evidence-based methodologies and evaluation tools to achieve these outcomes.
